Treatment of coe water in the region of Tonkin, Vietnam

BioPlanta helps conserve UNESCO world natural heritage in the North Vietnamese region Tonkin. The aim of this common project between BioPlanta and the Centre for Environmental Research in Leipzig is to treat highly contaminated waste water which accumulates during coal extraction at the Van Dang mine in an environmentally sound way. This is achieved by utilizing the specifically adapted Wetland technology. In the future the mining and municipal waste water (coe water) can be treated semi-naturally and cleaned by a Constructed Wetland.
The project is conducted within the framework of the RAME-Initiative (Research Association Mining and Environment in Vietnam). In this, a research network of several German research institutes are developing concepts to contribute neighboring Halong Bay. This limestone landscape, which was approved as world natural heritage by UNESCO in 1994, is highly endangered by mining activities.
The BioPlanta's tasks include developing implementation plans, organizing monitoring for construction and monitoring during the course of the project.
