Management of water resources in Durango, Mexico

Management of water resources in Durango, Mexico

On the example of Guadalupe Victoria (state of Durango, Mexico) a detailed climate analyses was developed. Simultaneously a hydrological modeling for the aquifer Madero Victoria in Guadalupe Victoria was done. Based of the hydrological results in connection with further results of site investigations a priority catalogue with suitable measures for management of water resources in the chosen region was established. Furthermore involved Mexican parties were enabled to create in assistance of the germane experts innovative approaches for a sustainable management of groundwater, surface and rain water.

The catalogue includes management measures like: agricultural practices and technologies for decrease of water demand for agriculture; policy, regulatory, and legal changes; decreasing runoff losses, reducing evaporation losses, storing water in soil and efficient use of stored soil water.
