Treatment of waste water of a winery in Chile

For the seasonally produced wastewater of the „La Cantera“ winery (Chile) a passive biological treatment plant - Constructed Wetland - was designed and built.

In the pressing period (March to May) up to 100 m³ of wastewater are produced per day. To meet the criteria for irrigation water, it is necessary to significantly reduce the concentrations of organic matter and nitrogen in the wastewater.

Existing earthen basins were redesigned and reconstructed for the treatment plant. The mechanical separator for solids has been preserved.
